Man Fatally Stabbed Girlfriend Nearly 100 Times, Sentenced: UCPO

Anthony James, 57, of Plainfield was sentenced to 60 years in state prison for stabbing his girlfriend in their home after an argument.

PLAINFIELD, NJ — A Plainfield man was sentenced to 60 years in state prison for reportedly fatally stabbing his girlfriend nearly 100 times following an argument in 2011, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Monday.

Anthony James, 57, must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before the possibility of parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.

The body of James' girlfriend Audrey Tanksley, 48, was found in the home they shared on the 300 block of East Seventh Street in Plainfield after he reportedly called 911 on Sept. 28, 2011 at around 5 p.m., according to Union County Assistant Prosecutors Scott Peterson and Alaina Caliendo, who prosecuted the case.
