Linden Man ID'd In Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash
The Linden man was taken to Newark University Hospital with serious injuries and later died, police reported on Monday night.

LINDEN, NJ — The Linden man who was hit and killed by a vehicle as he was crossing the street on Monday night was identified, Linden Police Lt. Christopher Guenther reported.
The identity of the pedestrian is Thomas Katsonis, 54, of Linden, Guenther reported.
At around 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 10, a 78-year-old Linden man as driving a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck when he made a right turn onto N. Wood Avenue from E. Elizabeth Avenue and hit the pedestrian, Guenther said.

After striking the pedestrian, the truck crashed with a dark 2016 mini-cooper that was stopped in traffic traveling south on N. Wood Avenue.
The driver of the mini-cooper was not injured. The driver of the pickup was treated for minor injuries at RWJBH Rahway. The 54-year-old pedestrian was transported to Newark University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Guenther reported.

"It is with great sadness that we report the victim in this evening's auto-pedestrian crash at Wood and Elizabeth Ave has succumbed to his injuries. Our prayers are with his family and loved ones as they cope with this terrible loss.," Linden Police tweeted.
N. Wood Avenue was closed for nearly three hours following the crash. It was reopened at about 8:30 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Linden Police Department Traffic Bureau and the Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force.
