Man Runs Out Of Court, Leads Police, K-9 On Chase In Roselle Park

ROSELLE PARK, NJ — A man ran away from a judge in a Roselle Park courtroom, leading police and K-9 on a chase before he was arrested, police said.

Just after 1 p.m. on Thursday, Javens Ogaus 25, of Irvington was in court in Roselle Park and ran away while the judge was talking to him, Roselle Park Police Detective Sgt. Richard Cocca said.

Ogaus ran out of the courthouse on E. Westfield Avenue and into the backyards of homes on Walnut Street while officers chased after him on foot, Cocca said.

Police set up a perimeter and, as the Union County Sheriff's Office K-9 Search & Rescue Unit arrived, Ogaus tried to run out of one of the yards but was caught on the 10 block of Charles Street, Cocca said.

Ogaus was charged with contempt of court and fourth-degree resisting arrest and sent to the Union County Jail pending a future Union County Superior Court bail hearing.
