NJ Dad Charged In Murder, Kidnapping Has Court Hearing Postponed

Tyler Rios is charged with kidnapping his 2-year-old son and murdering his ex-girlfriend Yasemin Uyar of Rahway.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — New Jersey father Tyler Rios was supposed to meet virtually for his detention hearing, but it was adjourned until next week. Rios faces charges of kidnapping his son, setting off an Amber Alert, and killing the boy's mother, 24-year-old Yasemin Uyar.

The detention hearing will now be held on Tuesday, July 27.

Wearing a bright orange prison jumpsuit, Rios previously made his first court appearance virtually on Tuesday before Union County Judge Richard Obuch, who read off Rios' charges.

Rios, 27, of Highland Park is charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree murder using strangulation, and for violating a restraining order by standing outside of Uyar's Rahway home.

Rob Grady is serving as the prosecutor for Union County and Mary Ellen Gaffney represented Rios for the day.
