Outdoor Movie Night: "Cars" in Echo Lake Park

Five things you need to know today, Friday, August 19.

  1. Union County presents another summer Family Fun & Flix event at Echo Lake Park tonight. The free program begins with a classic car show at 7 p.m. presented by G-Wiz Auto Entertainment and the Garden State Chevelles, followed by an outdoor screening of the award-winning, children’s animated feature film, “” at dusk.
  2. Trailside Nature and Science Center presents “” and “,” two outdoor Friday Family Programs beginning at 1:30 p.m. At Stream Stroll, search a babbling brook for crayfish, salamanders, and aquatic insects. Collect, identify, and release these tiny creatures and learn how they predict the health of the stream. In Discover Hiking, enjoy the sights and sounds of the season walking on a Watchung Reservation hiking trail. Learn the preparations, precautions, and dos and don'ts of hiking and how to use a trail map and read trail blazes. Look for animal tracks, nests, burrows, and butterflies along the way. Older adults, come to “,” a one of a kind program sponsored by Kean University’s Department of Occupational Therapy, AAA, AARP and JFK Medical Center, where automobile professionals check how your personal cars "fit" you as well as provide information on resources to enhance your safety as drivers and increase your mobility. CarFit takes place tomorrow, Saturday, August 20 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in parking lot Q of JFK Medical Center in Edison. All senior drivers are invited to participate in this program.
