Peaceful Protest Planned Near Linden City Hall Thursday

LINDEN, NJ — A peaceful protest was planned for N. Wood Avenue near Linden City Hall at 3 p.m. on Thursday following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"We fully support their constitutional right, and we have taken a number of precautions to help facilitate a safe and peaceful event for all those involved," Linden Police said.

There was supposed to be no parking allowed on both sides of N. Wood Avenue between 2 to 6 p.m. between Elizabeth Avenue and Curtis Street. Knopf Street and Blancke Street will also be closed between Helen Street and N. Wood Avenue.

There will be a higher than normal number of pedestrians in the area, and drivers should plan for additional street closures and seek alternate routes, police said.

Protests have sparked across the nation after the killing of Floyd, 46, when then Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
