Man Wanted In Linden Fatal Shooting Turns Himself In

Shansey Abernathy​, 23, of Linden who was wanted in the fatal shooting of Alphonso Pearson in Linden, turned himself in.

LINDEN, NJ — A suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on Wednesday that left one dead in Linden, turned himself in on Thursday.

Shansey Abernathy, 23, of Linden turned himself in to the Union County Prosecutor's Office detectives without incident at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Abernathy is being lodged in Union County Jail pending a first appearance in Superior Court expected to take place Friday morning.

Abernathy is charged with murder and two related weapons offenses in connection with the death of Alphonso Pearson, 27.

Pearson was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest outside of his home by Linden Police shortly after 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Cleveland Avenue, the Union County Prosecutor's Office reported.

Pearson was rushed to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, where he was pronounced dead.

Abernathy was identified as a suspect in the case following an investigation involving the Union County Homicide Task Force, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit and Linden Police Department.
