Positive Coronavirus Case Reported At Clark Middle School

CLARK, NJ — A positive coronavirus case, the first for the district, was reported at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School.

Superintendent of Schools Edward Grande sent a letter to parents on Monday stating students must be kept home from school through and including Friday and the district will switch to virtual learning. Grande did not specify if the positive case was a student or staff member.

"While we are just finding out about this positive test result now, the test was actually taken last Tuesday [Sept. 15], and the 14 days from that test brings us to next Monday [Sept. 28] for which we are already closed in observance of Yom Kippur," Grande said.

Parents are asked to be on the lookout for the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in children through Sept. 28. Symptoms can include but are not limited to fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Those who may have come in close contact with this positive case will be notified separately, Grande said.

If a parent believes their child may have COVID-19, they are asked to contact his/her primary care doctor for directions.

The school is currently undergoing cleaning and disinfecting of all exposed areas and precautions are being taken to prevent the introduction and spread of viruses and other germs.
