Rahway River Cleanup Yields Discovery Of Boat, Dock, Toy Shark

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A group of Union County volunteers cleaned up a small section of the Rahway River over the weekend and found some interesting objects floating around.

According to "robthetrashguy"on Reddit, the group of eight volunteers discovered a boat, dock, five garbage cans, a water heater, blocks of styrofoam, a road barrier, 10 tires, 12 bags of floatables and even a toy shark in the Rahway River where a wetland is proposed.

The Reddit user said the group gathered to clean up the river at the request of the Rahway River Watershed Association's Executive Director, Clea Carchia.

The Association's goal is to restore and protect the Rahway River by organizing cleanups, as well as various other community events.

In the comments of the Reddit post, the user said the eight volunteers were all 50-60 years old.

It was also recently announced that Union County will receive a federal grant to mitigate flooding from the Rahway River Basin. This will help fund a feasibility study of the upper portion of the river and reduce flooding throughout Union County.
