Reported Fireball, Explosion Found To Be False In Linden
"There was no explosion or fireball as initially reported," Linden Police said Wednesday.

LINDEN, NJ — Reports of a possible gas explosion and fireball in Linden on Wednesday afternoon were found to be false, police report.
At around 11:45 a.m., an explosion was reported in the area of the 800 block of N. Wood Ave. When Linden Police and Fire arrived they determined that a gas manifold in front of a local business had ruptured as a result of a motor vehicle crash, police report.
"The leak caused a loud noise, but there was no explosion or fireball as initially reported," police said.

The gas was shut off. One of the drivers, a 43-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries as a result of the crash. No other injuries were reported.
N. Wood Ave and the surrounding streets have since been reopened.
