Serious Car Crash Hospitalizes 1, Fire At Linden Garage

It was a busy Sunday in Linden as emergency officials responded to a serious car crash and a fire at a municipal garage.

LINDEN, NJ — It was a busy Sunday in Linden as emergency officials responded to a serious car crash that hospitalized one woman and also a fire at the city's municipal garage.

On Jan. 13 at about 11:25 a.m. a 2018 BMW X2 driving north on Park Avenue collided with a 2017 Nissan Sentra driving south as they were crossing the Park Avenue Bridge, Linden Police report.

The driver of the Nissan, a 58-year-old woman from Elizabeth, was taken to Newark University Hospital with serious injuries. She remains in critical condition. The driver of the BMW, a 20-year-old woman from Linden, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Newark University Hospital, police report.

The crash remains under investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau, and anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Jimmy Solano at 908-474-8505.

Later that same day at about 4 p.m., a two-alarm fire was reported at the Linden Municipal Garage, 1902 Lower Rd.

The fire was brought under control by Linden Fire Department with help from the Elizabeth, Rahway, Cranford, and Roselle Park Fire Departments. Crews from Roselle and Garwood Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident.

The building sustained minor damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however, criminal activity is not suspected, police report.
