Kamille Grant, 19, is charged with first-degree murder and two weapons offenses in connection with the death of 22-year-old Bryant Sanders.

It was approximately 4:45 p.m. on February 24, 2014 when Grant and Sanders reportedly engaged in a verbal dispute in a Chinese-food restaurant on Second Street in Elizabeth, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Melissa Spagnoli, who is prosecuting the case.

Sanders and an acquaintance then left the restaurant but were pursued by Grant, who produced a handgun and fired in their direction, striking Sanders multiple times, Spagnoli said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department resulted in Grant being identified as a suspect, and he was arrested in May. He remains lodged in Union County Jail on $600,000 bail.

Convictions on first-degree murder charges can result in penalties of 30 years to life in state prison.

These criminal charges are mere allegations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
