Trinitas Receives Grant To Help Nursing Homes Struck by COVID

Elizabeth, NJ---Trinitas recently received a grant from the NJ State Department of Health for $205,000 to provide training and education to seven area nursing homes with the goal of improving conditions and safety for residents during the pandemic.

Trinitas will work with the following Union County-based long-term care facilities, including: AristaCare at Delaire in Linden, Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cornell Hall Care and Rehabilitation Center in Union, Cranford Rehab and Nursing Center, Elizabeth Nursing and Rehab Center, Elmora Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Elizabeth, and Plaza Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, also in Elizabeth.

“The Department of Health’s goal is to foster a collaboration between long-term care facilities and acute care hospitals to improve the resilience and quality of medical care and services for the residents of nursing homes,” says Mary McTigue, PhD, Vice President – Patient Care
Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “We are providing multidisciplinary training and education focused on infection prevention and control, as well as cleaning practices, respiratory protection, end-of-life care, staff resilience and performance improvement framework. We will also provide guidance with regards to staffing and plans, as well as COVID operational plans.”

According to project manager Matthew Berkowitz, Manager of Operations - Hemodialysis and Wound Care, “It’s been an eye-opening experience to both help and learn from the nursing homes, and it is rewarding to provide education as well as leads on PPE, information research, and more. Our team at Trinitas is working very hard to make this a successful exchange of efforts to improve safety for Union County patients during the pandemic.”
