Westfield Area YMCA Hosts Athletic Shoe Fundraiser

All shoes will be sent overseas to be resold in developing countries.

Press release from Westfield YMCA:

Sept. 3, 2021

Do you have athletic shoes cluttering your closet that you’re no longer wearing? Bring them to the Westfield Area YMCA! All shoes will be sent overseas to be resold in developing countries, and the Y will receive a donation for the financial assistance program. Thanks to the Westfield Area Y’s financial assistance program, no one who is experiencing a bona fide financial hardship and lives or works in Westfield, Cranford, Garwood or Mountainside is turned away for inability to pay for Y programs or memberships. The majority of awards enable participation in the Y’s early learning, school age and summer day camp programs.

Running shoes, basketball shoes, shoes with non-metal cleats, cross trainers, canvas and gym shoes will all be accepted as long as they don’t have holes or rips. Just drop them in the box at the Main Y, 220 Clark Street; Bauer Branch, 422 East Broad Street; Early Learning Center, 170 Elm Street; or Garwood Family Center Y, 500 East Street.
