Westfield Avenue Paving To Bring Traffic Delays In Clark

CLARK, NJ — Drivers who use Westfield Avenue should plan for delays next week as Clark moves ahead with milling, paving and striping roadwork. Milling is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Paving and striping are expected to be completed by Friday, weather permitting.

The work will affect a busy stretch of the roadway on Westfield Avenue between Brant Avenue and Raritan Road. Preparatory curb work began this week, and additional traffic delays are expected from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, according to a Friday update from Clark Township.

The contractor will try to maintain access to the work zone from either Brant Avenue or Raritan Road. However, township officials warned that brief closures to through traffic may be necessary while crews are working.

“Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes whenever possible,” the township said.

The affected section is near the Clark Public Library, police headquarters, municipal offices and Arthur L. Johnson High School, making the timing important as families prepare for the new school year.

The township said the schedule remains weather-dependent and could change because of unforeseen circumstances. Drivers should watch for workers, equipment, reduced lanes and updated traffic notices throughout the week.
