Young Daughter Of Union County Mayor Dies Over Weekend

The Republican and Democratic committees in Rahway have agreed to suspend campaigning until further notice following the death.

RAHWAY, NJ — The 22-year-old daughter of Rahway Mayor Raymond Giacobbe and his wife, Rahway Board of Education member Laura Giacobbe, died over the weekend, according to reports.

Giacobbe's daughter, Annabella Marie, died suddenly at the age of 22 on Saturday, Sept. 24, according to Rahway PBA.

"The Giacobbe family is in tremendous grief as they mourn the death of their oldest child and ask that the public respect their privacy at this time," said Rahway PBA.

Annabella Marie reportedly died following a recent medical procedure, according to New Jersey Globe.

"Sadly another heartbreaking tragedy close to home-Parents are simply not supposed to outlive their children," wrote Derek Armstead Mayor of Linden. "Grief is an invisible thread that connects all of our hearts and as you mourn, take comfort in knowing that your neighbors in Linden are here for you."

The Rahway Republican Committee also extended their sympathy to the family.

"No words can express the pain and the heartbreak of losing a child. We join all Rahway citizens in mourning this young woman’s death," wrote Patrick Cassio.

The Republican and Democratic committees in Rahway have agreed to suspend campaigning until further notice following the death.

Mayor Giacobbe, a Democrat, is running for re-election unopposed.

Annabella Marie went to Union Catholic High School and recently graduated from Rutgers University this past May, according to her Facebook page.

The City of Rahway did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.
