15 Hospitals In New Jersey Among America’s Best: Money

The Garden State hospitals that made the list are in many parts of the state.

NEW JERSEY — Nearly everyone in New Jersey will require hospital care at some point in their lives, whether for treating a shoulder problem or a head injury caused by a car crash, a stroke or heart attack that a loved one is experiencing or any one of a number of medical conditions.

However, knowing which hospitals provide the best, most affordable care can be confusing.

To help New Jerseyans make this decision, digital platform Money teamed up with The Leapfrog Group to compile its inaugural Best Hospitals In America list. Out of 6,000 hospitals in the nation, this year’s list spotlights 148 such facilities in the Garden State that consistently provide great care.

The hospitals on this year’s list span 29 states and fall into five different categories: general hospitals, children’s hospitals, rural hospitals, large teaching hospitals and small teaching hospitals.

Of the 15 New Jersey hospitals on the Money and Leapfrog Group's list, many have received accolades before.

For example, Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, Jefferson Stratford Hospital in Stratford and Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune also received top marks in the 2022 Hospital Safety Grades report of New Jersey hospitals that was released in May.

In addition, Overlook Medical Center in Summit and Morristown Medical Center were named one of Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals in March.

The ten other New Jersey hospitals on Money's list were:

  • Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus
  • Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills
  • Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood
  • Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood
  • Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack
  • Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill
  • Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital in Cherry Hill
  • Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch
  • St. Luke's Warren Campus in Phillipsburg
  • Virtua Voorhees Hospital in Voorhees

To select the best hospitals, Money and The Leapfrog Group used data from The Leapfrog Group’s Hospitals Survey, its Hospital Safety Grade assessment and public data sources.

For more than 20 years, The Leapfrog Group has evaluated hospitals on numerous criteria from ICU staffing to high-risk surgery outcomes to maternity care. Factors that weighed heavily in determining this year’s best hospitals were hospital infection rates, maternity care, pediatrics, medication management, hand hygiene practices, nursing workforce and critical care.
