$2.3 Million Improvement Project Coming to Haddon Avenue Corridor
The project is aimed at safe and convenient travel along Haddon Avenue in Camden.

Infrastructure on a stretch of Haddon Avenue in Camden City is being modernized around and the area of the city around Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is being enhanced as part of a $2.3 million project announced by Camden County Freeholders on Thursday.
The project is the first of a multi-phase reconstruction of Haddon Avenue designed to allow safe and convenient travel for all travellers, including drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
When completed, the roadway will be resurfaced and pedestrian friendly sidewalks, curbs and ramps will be installed.

The project will include upgrades to the traffic signals and significant storm water reconstruction.
“This phase of the Haddon Avenue Improvement Project complements the many site improvements Lourdes has made in recent years, and the exciting new plans we are currently developing now that we have acquired the monastery next door to the hospital,” Alexander J. Hatala, President & CEO of Lourdes Health System, said. “Lourdes is currently involved in a facility master plan process that will help to guide our future endeavors. These changes to Haddon Avenue could not have come at a better time. We are grateful to all of our partners for helping to make this happen.”

“These streetscape enhancements are not only welcomed but necessary to ensure our roadways can adequately manage the future infrastructure, vehicular and pedestrian demands,” Camden Mayor Dana Redd said. “The Haddon Avenue corridor is one of the Camden’s oldest thoroughfares. It’s a gateway into the City, linking our residents and neighboring communities to Camden’s downtown amenities. Haddon Avenue also plays an important role, serving as the business district for the Parkside, Whitman Park, Gateway and Downtown sections of Camden. I commend Camden County for undertaking this project and for their continued efforts to reinvest in Camden.”
“Haddon Avenue has been a landmark for residents in Camden County for centuries,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “These enhancements will continue to build on the historic foundation of the former toll road.”
