I've got a crush on knits right now and I owe it to a talented independent designer from California, Myrrhia Resneck.
There is no lack of articles these days about chefs taking trips to farms to source respectfully raised ingredients, resulting in a better experience for all involved. It's a refreshing twist on the same theme to report that Resneck is doing something similar with textiles, who has visited farms to source yarns in her own home state (read more). She only works with domestic yarns that are grown and spun in the USA, and favors the local and the organic.
Hers is a thinking woman's knit—the more you know about how the designer works, the more you admire the final product. Grounded by a commitment to responsible production, she explores empowering ideas like "the energy within"—this fall's theme— to provide inspiration for the visual appeal.
It connects on an effortless, love-at-first sight level, too. I saw her fall collection, and ME WANT!
Her recent showing at a regional trade show won her some well deserved accounts on the west coast. I wish her the best of luck. In the meantime, everyone else in the world can shop her self-curated available-everywhere styles at http://myrrhia.com/.
Betsy Cook is the designer/manufacturer behind National Picnic clothing. She blogs about other small independent designers for fun. That's right. Fun. You can follow her posts on http://nationalpicnic.tumblr.com/
