COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — A century-old ban on the sale of liquor at establishments throughout the borough has ended.
The unofficial vote passed by a count of 3,506 in favor over 2,322 against in the General Election on Tuesday night, and still have to be certified.
"Booze on the Ballot" organized a petition with signatures that led to the passing of a resolution in August to bring the question to voters on Tuesday.
The state would now determine how many liquor licenses that Collingswood will be able to distribute.
From there, the borough would set up the process to apply, annual fees, and hear public presentations from those looking to receive one.
The move comes just two years after nearby Haddon Heights ended its own 100-year run of banning alcohol sales.
