Children can hone their reading and writing skills for the 2011-2012 school year at the Summer Reading Program at Saint Joseph’s University.
The Summer Reading Program serves elementary and middle school children of all reading levels, from struggling readers to those seeking a literacy challenge. The program is taught by certified educators and features small group activities that emphasize learning vocabulary, building reading comprehension skills, and developing speaking, listening and writing skills.
“Saint Joseph’s University is proud to provide this great opportunity for parents to receive an individualized assessment profile that identifies a child’s key areas for literacy growth,” said Dr. Mary DeKonty Applegate, director of the Summer Reading Program.

“Families will also benefit from a collaborative learning environment that focuses on higher-level thinking and challenges children to further their literacy achievements,” Applegate continued.
Instruction runs from June 27 to July 28, and all classes will be held from 8:45 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday during the five-week course. Pre-program individualized assessments will take place on June 4, 11, and 18.
