The Robert Cray Band All Amped Up Tour 2026Blues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things – and more. The Georgia- born, Washington-raised musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV then, having witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle, determined that his destiny would also follow a similar path. And so he has: across the past half century Robert Cray’s developed into one of American music’s most singular artists.

From forming a teenage garage band, through to striding the stage alongside several of the world’s greatest guitarists, Robert Cray’s story is one of struggle and commitment. Struggle and commitment that led to Cray enjoying phenomenal success – selling millions of albums and countless concert tickets, winning five Grammy Awards, being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, recipient of the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award, designing two signature model Fender guitars – yet for Robert what’s always mattered most is the music. Every note he plays counts, every song he sings is delivered as if it is his last: integrity and intensity are what has guided Cray’s musical career. He has never cheapened his output or delivered a substandard performance. Indeed, his commitment to making music of the highest standard has won Cray both a loyal audience and the respect of many of popular music’s most legendary figures.
Think about it: Robert Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Albert Collins, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Memphis Horns and Hi Rhythm Section. Cray’s stinging guitar playing and soulful voice, his skills as a band leader and performer, mark him as keeper of the flame for American roots music, an artist who never fails to deliver.

After Tomato, Cray and his band – today consisting of Richard Cousins (bass guitar – there since high school days), Dover Weinberg (keyboards) and Les Falconer (drums) – used the momentum the album gave them to play further afield. By now Cray was buddies with a young guitarist from Texas: Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Signing to Hightone, Cray’s 1983 album Bad Influence established him internationally: he was invited to play Carnegie Hall, toured Europe, later finding Eric Clapton recording Bad Influence’s title track. 1985 saw Cray’s False Accusations album increase his standing as the foremost singer of blues noir songs, while that year’s Showdown! – a sizzling collaboration with guitarists’ Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland – won Robert huge acclaim from blues musicians and fans: the new guy’s the real deal! Signing to Mercury Records, Cray’s 1986 album Strong Persuader ensured he became the first blues/soul musician to breakthrough in the MTV era.
Strong Persuader won Cray rave reviews from pop and rock critics, topped charts worldwide, saw Cray grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Recording in 1988. Strong Persuader, with its songs of infidelity, guilt and unease, while not in any sense conventional Top 40 music, proved so strong an album it broke through barriers, sold millions of copies and would prove extremely influential (2026 being the 40th anniversary.) Cray’s breakthrough allowed both young and older blues and soul musicians to gain wide attention and radio play: John Lee Hooker’s career resurrection came soon after with The Healer, and Robert plays on that seminal album.

Cray’s being modest here: suddenly he found himself the hottest guitarist working – Tina Turner invited Robert to support her huge European tour (every night, after playing with his band, Cray would join Tina on stage to play A Change Is Gonna Come), then Keith Richards called, requesting Cray join the band backing Chuck Berry for Taylor Hackford’s celebratory feature length documentary Hail Hail Rock ‘N’ Roll. Here Cray not only got to play with the mercurial Berry (+Linda Ronstadt and Etta James, amongst many notable artists), he also formed a friendship with Steve Jordan, then drummer for the project and Richards’ solo band.



Across five decades Robert Cray has created a richly inclusive American music, revitalising both blues and soul while rocking hard with the very best. To achieve 50 years in the music industry and still be as fresh and committed as when starting out is an achievement few can boast of but Cray can: he has released 19 studio albums, every one replete with his extremely distinctive songs, won five Grammy Awards and continues to make music that sounds like no one but Robert Cray. “All these years we have been fortunate to do what we love doing, playing the music we love playing,” says Cray with a smile. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Set in Venice and the fictional kingdom of Barataria, the plot centers on two gondoliers, Marco and Giuseppe, who discover that one of them is the rightful king but cannot determine which. They agree to rule jointly until the true monarch can be identified, allowing Gilbert to satirize monarchy, aristocracy, and British political institutions. The show is especially noted for its unusually warm tone and emphasis on equality, reflecting contemporary late-Victorian debates about class and governance.
Through its witty dialogue, lively ensemble numbers, and playful mockery of aristocracy and political systems, the operetta celebrates equality while poking fun at rigid class distinctions and the pretensions of monarchy.
Premiered in 1889, The Gondoliers is the twelfth collaboration between librettist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. The show ran for 554 performances, making it one of the duo’s most successful later works.
Introducing Stage Director Grant Mech and Choreographer Rebecca Malcolm-Naib, whose inventive vision brings The Gondoliers to life in a masterful comedy that sparkles under the outstanding baton of Music Director Peter Hilliard and a superb professional orchestra. Produced by William Kader, the production is enhanced by a striking, professionally designed set and delightfully charming costumes.

An Evening with Hot Tuna - Acoustic - with special guest Ross Garren
Hot Tuna, an iconic American blues rock band, has been delivering a profound musical experience to audiences pushing six decades. With founding members Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady at its helm, the band has constantly evolved, continually injecting fresh energy and improvisation into their sound.
The story of Hot Tuna begins with Jefferson Airplane, a pioneering psychedelic rock band of the 1960s. Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady were at the heart of Jefferson Airplane, contributing to its distinctive sound and monumental success. As members of the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame and Grammy recipients, Kaukonen and Casady helped shape the musical landscape of the era, leaving an indelible mark on the history of rock and roll.
In the late 1960s, amidst the turbulence and creativity of the counterculture movement, Kaukonen and Casady sought a new musical outlet. This desire led to the formation of Hot Tuna, a band that allowed them to explore their deep-rooted passion for blues and American roots music. Hot Tuna’s early performances were characterized by a raw, acoustic sound that highlighted Kaukonen’s intricate guitar work and Casady’s innovative bass lines. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1970, captured the essence of these performances and set the stage for the band’s enduring legacy.
Hot Tuna has consistently evolved throughout their career, experimenting with different styles and sounds while staying true to their blues roots. The band’s discography, spanning over two dozen records, showcases their versatility and creativity. From the acoustic blues of their early years to the electric rock-infused albums of the 1970s and beyond, Hot Tuna has continually pushed the boundaries of their music.
Casady, long considered one of rock’s first bass heroes, has been a driving force behind this evolution. His creativity is evidenced by his continually evolving bass solos in his extensive library of songs and live performances. At almost 85 years of age, Kaukonen remains at the apex of his skills, captivating audiences with his husky voice and proficient blues licks that rival the iconic leads of many blues rock masters. Together, they are well-seasoned musicians and musical treasures.
Hot Tuna’s live performances are legendary and known for their spontaneity and energy. The band’s ability to improvise and create unique musical moments on stage has garnered them a dedicated following. Each concert is a testament to their musicianship and deep connection with the audience.
To some fans, Hot Tuna reminds them of wild and happy times. To others, the name will forever be linked to their discovery of the power and depth of American Blues music. To newer fans, Hot Tuna is a band on the cutting edge of music. This multifaceted appeal has allowed Hot Tuna to remain relevant and influential across generations.
Hot Tuna’s contributions to music have not gone unnoticed. In October of 2022, Jefferson Airplane was given its star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The band’s surviving members, Casady, Kaukonen, and Grace Slick attended the ceremony. Fittingly, the star is located right in front of the Musician’s Institute, cementing their place in the annals of rock history.
Hot Tuna’s journey is a testament to the enduring power of passion, creativity, and innovation. From their roots in Jefferson Airplane to their status as blues-rock legends, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady have left an indelible mark on the music world. Additionally, I’ve contributed to film scores by composers such as Robbie Robertson, Hans Zimmer, Ludwig Göransson, Marco Beltrami, Buck Sanders, Bear McCreary, Lyle Workman, Mark Mancina, and Alf Clausen.
​Describing my music can be a challenge, but I think Andre LaFosse summed it up best: “Ross Garren’s sound world is a meeting of vintage Americana, retro-futurism, classic songcraft, and whimsical surrealism.” In short, I wear my eclectic tastes on my sleeve, blending my favorite genres, eras, and sounds—often in stark juxtaposition.
