Camden Man Indicted in 2013 Murder of Afghan War Vet From Blackwood

Darrell Crone allegedly shot and killed Timothy Loper as Loper was attempting to break up a fight at the now-defunct 20 Horse Tavern.

A 32-year-old man has been indicted in the murder of an Afghan war veteran from Blackwood, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo announced Monday evening.

Darrell Crone was indicted on counts of murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess a weapon in the shooting death of Timothy Loper.

Crone was allegedly involved in an altercation outside the now-defunct 20 Horse Tavern at the intersection of 2nd and Spruce streets in Camden in the pre-dawn hours of Dec. 1, 2013.

Crone is accused of brandishing a firearm during the altercation, and shooting Loper as the 27-year-old veteran who had addresses in both Blackwood and Clementon, was attempting to break up the fight.

Loper served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.
