Collingswood Adopts Application Fee For Cannabis Businesses
Any would-be cannabis business in New Jersey must have "proof of local support in their applications," the state of NJ has previously said.
COLLINGSWOOD, NJ – Entrepreneurs who want to set up a cannabis-based business in Collingswood will have to pay the borough a $2,500 non-refundable application fee, according to an ordinance adopted at a recent Collingswood Borough Commissioners Meeting.
This fee will cover the costs associated with the borough looking into providing what the State of New Jersey’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission calls “proof of local support,” the ordinance states.
This “proof of local support” consists of, among other things, the borough providing the license applicant’s legal name under which they are registered to do business within the Garden State, according to the Cannabis Regulatory Commission’s website.

The also consists of the borough having “authorized the type of cannabis business license being sought by the license-applicant to operate within its jurisdiction; and a confirmation that if the municipality has imposed a limit on the number of licensed cannabis businesses, the issuance of a license to the license applicant by the commission would not exceed that limit,” the Cannabis Regulatory Commission’s website added.
Any entrepreneur who wants to set up a cannabis-based business in New Jersey must obtain this support from the local government of where he or she wants to set up operations, the Cannabis Regulator Commission has previously said. This commission ultimately decides on the entrepreneur’s application, the municipality does not.
