Collingswood High School Football Senior Officially Commits to Boston College

Ameer Richardson confirms signing with Boston College on National Signing Day.

After nearly four months of waiting, Collingswood High School senior Ameer Richardson was finally able to officially put an end to what little speculation there was about where he’d continue his football career.

On Wednesday, Feb. 2—a day which doubles in America as college football’s National Signing Day—the standout running back and safety signed an official letter of intent to play for head coach Frank Spaziani at Boston College this coming season.

In late November, Richardson verbally committed to the Boston College Eagles as soon as the Atlantic Coast Conference school expressed interest in him.

ESPN’s Scouts, Inc. has Richardson listed as a safety, but the 5-foot-11 senior also tore apart opposing defenses during his 2010 season with Collingswood as the team's running back—setting a school record for rushing yards, with 1,466, and scoring 18 touchdowns along the way.

On the defensive side of the football, Richardson recorded three separate interceptions during his senior season.

According to several reports, Boston College is primarily interested in using Richardson as a safety, but Boston College football coaches are also open to ideas about potentially using him on the offense, and have mentioned also using him as a return man.

Richardson is one of a 23-man recruiting class to which the Eagles signed yesterday.

Rivals.com has the Boston College Eagles' class ranked No. 38 in the entire nation and sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference—behind Florida State, who placed fourth overall; Clemson who took eighth; North Carolina, who took the No. 16 spot; Virginia, who placed at No. 26; and Virginia Tech, who hold their spot at No. 33.
