Collingswood Schools To Close For Eagles Super Bowl Parade

Collingswood and Oaklyn schools will close on Thursday for the Eagles Super Bowl parade; what do you think?

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — The Philadelphia Eagles have captured the first Lombardi Trophy in team history, and two South Jersey school districts are giving the residents of its town a chance to share in the historic celebration.

“To allow our students, staff, and families the chance to witness history and celebrate our Super Bowl Champion Eagles, all Collingswood and Oaklyn Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 8,” messages on both district websites read this week.

The Oaklyn Public School District is the state’s only K-9 district, and its 10th, 11th and 12th grade students attend Collingswood High School. With the new day off, Collingswood schools will be closed a total of 20 days, not including snow days.

The championship marks the Eagles first Super Bowl victory in their history after losses in 1981 and 2005. They won NFL championships in the pre-Super Bowl era, in 1948, 1949 and 1960.

The parade will be the first major professional sports championship parade in Philadelphia since the Phillies won the World Series in 2008. There was also a parade for the Villanova men's basketball team when they won the NCAA Championships in 2016.
