Collingswood Sets Sights on Rehabilitation of 12 Abandoned Properties

The borough will use powers appointed to municipalities under state legislation.

Collingswood, NJ -- Collingswood officials will tackle 12 of the roughly 60 abandoned homes in the borough this summer, using powers designated to municipalities under the Abandoned Properties Rehabilitation Act, njpen.com reports.

The act gives local municipalities the ability to fix up properties that have been abandoned for at least six months and are uninhabitable for a number of reasons. Municipalities are also permitted to seize the property titles with an eye toward selling them, and getting them back into productive use, according to the report.

The St. Joseph’s Carpenter’s Society will assist the borough in the process.
