Local Painter, Maria Christopher
Maria Christopher has a BFA and Masters in Art Teaching from the University of the Arts. She studied painting in Florence Italy where she lived for almost two years. She worked as an art teacher for The School District of Philadelphia and taught painting to both children and adults at the Fleisher Art Memorial.
Maria has maintained a studio in the Italian Market District in Philadelphia for nearly 25 years. Her studio window overlooks the hustle and bustle of the market. The colors, textures, themes and energy of the market often make their way into her work. She paints with oil on wood panel and enjoys teetering the line between the representational and the slightly abstract.
