Former Coach Joe McLaughlin, Collingswood School District Reach $250,000 Settlement in Lawsuit: Report
McLaughlin claimed he was not rehired as the boys basketball coach because he refused a direct order to recruit more white players.

Former Collingswood High School boys basketball coach Joe McLoughlin and the Collingswood Board of Education have settled his lawsuit filed against the district for $250,000, the Courier Post reports.
The lawsuit was filed in 2013, when McLoughlin claimed that he was not rehired as the boys basketball coach for 2013 because he refused an alleged directive from Collingswood High School Principal Edward Hill and Athletic Director Ronald Hamrick to recruit more white players for the team.
When the whole incident unfolded at a school board meeting in 2012, supporters of the winningest coach in school history claimed publicly and in no uncertain terms that he was a victim of racial politics in the district.

However, a report released to Patch in February of 2014 determined that racial bias played no role in his dismissal.
McLoughlin was satisfied with the result, but Collingswood Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Oswald told the newspaper that the settlement was “less about truth and more about money.”
