Man Hit Oaklyn Cop With Car, Fled Scene: Police

The Georgia man was arrested in Collingswood.

A Georgia man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run collision that injured an Oaklyn police officer, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Oaklyn Police Chief Mark Moore said Thursday night.

Leon A. Williams, 49, of Dacula, Georgia, was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, assault by auto and leaving an injured victim.

He allegedly hit the officer with his car in the intersection of the White Horse Pike and West Clinton Avenue in Oaklyn at approximately 10:40 a.m. Thursday morning.

He then allegedly fled the scene.

Oaklyn Police stopped Williams on the White Horse Pike in Collingswood after the injured officer broadcast a description of the vehicle that struck her.

The officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden and was later released.

Williams was remanded to the Camden County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
