Outstanding Achievement Awards Presented to 49th Basic Police Class Graduates

Outstanding Achievement awards were presented to 8 graduates of the 49th Basic Police Class of the Gloucester County Police Academy on Wednesday, Dec.7, in the Physical Education Center on the campus of Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC).

Twenty-five men and women graduated with fanfare and good wishes, marking the completion of their 19-week training session. Police Academy Director Fred H. Madden welcomed guests, with opening remarks provided by RCGC Vice President of Academic Services Linda Hurlburt and Board of Trustees Chairperson Gene J. Concordia. The keynote address was presented by Chief Thomas Mills, of the Harrison Township Police Department. Following the presentation of diplomas, achievement awards were presented to the following graduates:

Class Leader Stefanie Short, Cherry Hill, earned the Special Dedication and Firearms Awards. Guidon Christen E. Mandela, Township of Hamilton, also received the Firearms Award.

Cherry Hill’s Heather A. Brooks, received the Director’s and Administrator Robert D. Melson Merit Awards.

The Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Award was presented to Class President Gerald M. Gares III, Cherry Hill.

Class Vice-President Jordan P. Mayr, Cherry Hill, and Timothy Haslett, Carneys Point, were presented the Physical Training Award.

Mark C. Clauss, Willingboro, earned the Vehicle Operations Award.

The Academic Award was presented to Matthew Glassman, Cherry Hill.

The 25 graduates represented Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties, as well as Rowan University.

The Gloucester County Police Academy operates as an autonomous unit within RCGC’s Division of Law and Justice.

Rowan College at Gloucester County is located on a 250-acre campus on Tanyard Road, Deptford, just off Exit 56 of Route 55.
