Panthers Baseball Team Waiting for Storms to Pass
With weather postponing two scrimmages this week, Collingswood baseball looks for other ways to play.
It’s been a hectic week for the Collingswood High School baseball team, and unfortunately, none of the chaos has much in common with playing baseball.
Due to inclement weather—including rainfall and a slight showing of snow flurries—Panthers' scrimmage against Maple Shade, originally scheduled for Monday afternoon, was postponed until Friday.
Additionally, a preseason matchup planned for Wednesday against Gloucester Catholic High School was also cancelled. Now, the Panthers will travel to Pennsauken this Monday to play Bishop Eustace Preparatory High School.

“Gloucester Catholic wasn’t able to reschedule before their regular season started,” said Collingswood head coach Rob Skowronek. “They have a very good program over there and we wanted to see if we could get a team of about the same caliber and Bishop Eustace is a pretty good team.”
In lieu of the in-game experience they’re lacking with scrimmage cancellations and postponements, Collingswood has still assumed their position on the damp fields during practice this week, working on different aspects of the game—excluding hitting.

“We don’t really want to hit in this weather because it will ruin the bats and balls,” said Skowronek. “Our assistant coach, though, Matt Gena, is a pretty creative guy. I give him a lot of credit. He’s come up with a lot of different stuff to keep the kids involved this week.”
The Panthers hope precipitation will hold off tomorrow during their scrimmage with Maple Shade.
“I don’t think the guys are missing out by not getting these scrimmages,” said Skowronek. “I do think they’re getting pretty antsy to get back on the field, though. We had three scrimmages last week and this week, we haven’t had any yet.”
