PATCO Riders to See Delays While Tracks Are Replaced After Memorial Day

The south-side track of the PATCO line over the Ben Franklin Bridge will be shut down as PATCO prepares to replace six miles of rail over the bridge, nj.com reports.

East and west bound trains will share a track, so commuters can expect gaps of about a half hour in service for about two months after Memorial Day, according to the report.

Following completion of that work, it will be the north-side track’s turn. That will be shut down for 50 days, which can result in 15-minute delays during that time, according to the report.

The work is part of a $103 million project over two years that includes various other upgrades, according to the report.

Delaware River Port Authority CEO and PATCO President John Hanson told nj.com a total of $1.2 million has been spent to this point to maintain service and safety on the tracks, but the tracks have reached the end of their usefulness.
