Second Shooting in Two Days Results in Another Death in Camden

A Camden man was killed in an early morning shooting. A Philadelphia man is in critical condition.

A Camden man was killed in the second shooting in two days in Camden, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson.

A Philadelphia man was shot in the same incident and reported to be in critical condition.

Andrew L. Anderson, 24, was discovered by Camden County Police around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning after being shot multiple times.

He was inside a white Chevrolet van parked on the 900 block of South Third Street in Camden, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

An unidentified 38-year-old Philadelphia man also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was driven to Cooper University Hospital by a concerned citizen.

The shooting came one day after 21-year-old Karen Ramirez was shot to death in Camden, on Monday afternoon.

The shootings come at a time when Camden is trying to turn things around, and the murder rate was down in the City for the first six months of 2014 from the same period in 2013, according to the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report.

The shootings illustrate there is still work to be done.

Earlier this year. Camden was pegged as one of six cities nationwide to receive resources as part of a new national initiative to reduce violence in various communities.
