CRANFORD, NJ — A Union County man was charged after a loaded handgun was found during a traffic stop in Cranford Tuesday evening, according to police.
The stop took place around 7:14 p.m. on North Avenue near Elizabeth Avenue.
Officers pulled over a 2008 Nissan Rogue for an equipment violation, and during the stop a loaded 9mm handgun was found inside the vehicle.
The passenger, identified as 20-year-old Alamin Gadson of Hillside, was taken into custody at the scene.
Gadson was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of large-capacity magazines, according to police.
The driver of the vehicle was issued a summons for the equipment violation.
Gadson was later taken to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
