Cranford BOE Questions NJ Cellphone Ban Rules (patch.com) — Cranford school leaders are working through New Jersey’s new cellphone restrictions while reassuring families that students won’t have to surrender their phones at the door. Superintendent Mark Cantagallo says devices must stay “off and away” during the day, with staff intervening only when phones become disruptive, as the Board of Education refines its policy in the coming months.    

2. Iselin Man Arrested for 67-Vehicle Vandalism Spree Across Union, Middlesex Towns (wdhafm.com) — Cranford police helped crack a disturbing vandalism spree that left windshields on parked cars shattered across six Union and Middlesex County towns in early April. Working with neighboring departments, they arrested a 24-year-old Iselin man now facing multiple criminal mischief charges and held in Union County Jail, following earlier reported encounters with law enforcement in Pennsylvania.    

3. Cranford's Travis Literate Receives Valor Award for Parkway Rescue (tapinto.net) — Cranford firefighter Travis Literate has been honored with a Valor Award from the 200 Club of Union County for rescuing a trapped driver from a burning, overturned vehicle on the Garden State Parkway. Responding with Cranford Fire Department units to a crash just over the border in Clark, he helped police pull the occupant from the flames, earning praise from Chief Daniel Czeh for courage and professionalism.    

4. North Jersey, Section 2 softball playoff preview, 2026: Best games, top players, picks & more (nj.com subscription) — Cranford softball enters the North 2, Group 3 playoffs as a dangerous No. 6 seed, backed by 29 team home runs and standout slugger Emma Andre. A statewide preview also notes Cranford as a quality win for other Union County powers, underscoring how respected the Cougars have become heading into next week’s NJSIAA tournament.
