Weather forecast:
1. Cranford Rejects River Cleanup Bids Over Cost Concerns (patch.com) — Cranford officials are restarting the bidding process for the Rahway River Desilting Project after all initial proposals came in at roughly double the expected cost. Township leaders stress they remain committed to reducing flooding by clearing sediment, but want contractors to exclude most disposal work so Cranford can reuse suitable material locally and better protect taxpayers. The project will be rebid after a future Township Committee meeting.
2. Despite Rumors, Library Expansion On Track For Summer Reopening In Cranford (patch.com) — Cranford officials say the Cranford Public Library’s renovation and expansion are still on track for a full summer reopening, despite rumors it had been shut down. A subcontractor issue briefly affected some work, but the main project continued, and the redesigned building will feature larger children’s and tween spaces to support expanded youth programming.
3. First Presbyterian Church of Cranford celebrates 175 years of faith and community (unionnewsdaily.com) — First Presbyterian Church of Cranford recently marked 175 years as a spiritual and community anchor in town, tracing its roots back to Craneville in 1851. The celebration featured music, reflections from longtime members, remarks from Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty, and a look at the church’s many missions that have shaped generations of Cranford families.
4. Cranford Eighth Graders Turn Backyard Games Into Organized Wiffle Ball League (tapinto.net) — A group of Cranford eighth graders has turned casual backyard wiffle ball into the organized Cranford Wiffle Ball League, complete with teams, playoffs and YouTube coverage. The free league for players 14 and under is expanding, with an early July tournament planned at the Cranford Swim & Tennis Club and open to kids from around Union County.
