Calvary Lutheran Church Invites You to Ash Wednesday Services

Service of Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes

Calvary Lutheran Church invites you to Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, February 14 at 1:15pm or 7:30pm. Join us as we mark the beginning of Lent and our 40-day journey to the cross. Both our afternoon and evening services include Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes.

On Ash Wednesday, we traditionally gather in worship to confess our sins and prepare our hearts and minds for the renewal of faith that belongs to us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We receive the ashes on our foreheads as a reminder of God's condemnation of sin, as God said to Adam, "Dust you are and to dust you shall return" (Genesis 3:19). But even in this mark of death, we look forward to the new life of Easter.

Pastor Carol Lindsay notes, "It's interesting that Ash Wednesday falls on St. Valentine's Day this year. We are hoping to take a pragmatic look at the failures many of us experience in relationships and the grace that God in Christ offers."
