I have to confess. I am ready to move right into replenishing my makeup bag with the all the fabulous shades of sun-kissed corals and soft rose colored golds being offered right now. But those sun drenched lipsticks, glosses and citrus nails choices will have to wait until I “get real” with what is currently taking space in my beauty bag. This means it is time to face facts, clean it out and make room for the fresh new look of spring. This can sometimes be the hardest thing to do, part with your current beauty items, but it is necessary to say farewell –“out with the old and in with the new”.
Here are two reasons to look in, re-evaluate, and switch out your old makeup in your cosmetic bag. First reason and most important is hygiene. Your beauty items harbor a host of different types of bacteria and germs that can irritate your skin by creating acne-like symptoms and facial redness. We all know makeup goes on and looks so much better when your skin is in great condition. Therefore, it is suggested to follow these guidelines for replacing your much loved beauty products. It is recommended that mascara and liquid eyeliner be replaced after 3 months, powders (shadow/blush/loose/pressed)- 2 years and cream/liquids (gloss/stick/foundation)- 1 year. If you use brushes, be sure to wash them every week and don’t forget to wash your cosmetic bag periodically.
The second reason to look in your bag and see what needs to be tossed is for the sheer pleasure of filling your case up with those flirty new colors that have arrived in the stores. Right now I am crazy for corals and wild for retro cool! Let me start by focusing on Lips: You can’t go wrong with lip shades in a soft peach (light), beachy coral (medium), or a vibrant poppy (burst of color). Depending on your comfort level, these sun kissed hues work well with both afternoon and evening attire. You can add a touch of creamy gloss in the middle of your upper and lower lip to create more boldness or softness in your look. Blush-let’s not forget to invest in a new blush to add a rosy glow to your cheeks. Cream- to- powder blushes are prefect to add that soft hint of color and healthy glow to your face. Look for shades that are in the apricot family with a touch of pink. Apply lightly at the front of the apple of your cheek and lightly blend backwards. You will instantly warm up! For my third category that adds that fun retro feel for spring, its Nails. It’s time to part with your metallic and deep shades and lighten up. Spruce up your nails with new shades such as a soft vintage blue, light pistachio green, or glossy nectar to bring out the playfulness in you. It has been a long cold winter and now it is time to warm up, brighten up and play it up!
