Track Team Tests Speed, Strength

Cougars test their speed and strength in individual relays during dual meet with Gov. Livingston.

The Cranford Cougars Coed track and field team hosted Governor Livingston and Union Catholic yesterday in a dual meet held at Memorial Field in Cranford.

Along with 200, 400, 800 and 1600 meter individual and relays, field events included long jump, pole vault, shot, discuss and javelin.

Field event highlights: Fine efforts included Kristen VanBenschoten, who tossed the discus to 88 feet and four inches, and Anthony Triantafyllou, who made the 115 foot mark. Chris Witwick made 139 feet and three inches in the boys' javelin competition.

 Race highlights: Natalie Englese ran a 25.51 in the girls' 200 and Laura Van Horn came out on top with a 70.25  in the girls 400. In the boys' competition, Mike Helmstetter timed 56.74 in the 400 event, and Reggie Green topped the list with a 24.41 time in the 200 event.
