Cranford Man Crafts 'Good Humor' Truck Out Of Snow

Funds from sales of treats went to a local children's hospital.

CRANFORD, NJ — Robert Schott is looking to bring warmth to the Cranford community with a taste of nostalgia during the blistering cold temperatures.

Along with help from neighbors like Lisa and Bob Hunt, Schott built a Good Humor Ice Cream truck almost entirely out of snow in his front yard.

On Friday and Saturday, Schott sold ice cream bars from the truck for $5 each to raise money for Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, the Township of Cranford said.

The project was also a tribute to Schott's 104-year-old father, Joseph, who would volunteer one night each week at the hospital for 10 years. While there, he would play games with the children, bring new movies for them to watch, and talk about science.

In the new sculpture, neighborhood kids were welcomed into the 1950s-style truck to ring the bells as families enjoyed some of the more than 750 bars that were bought from local supermarkets and stores.

This latest creation follows a string of other works that have gained Schott media attention, including a sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and the character "Olaf" from Disney's "Frozen."
