Cranford Winter Dance Showcase Bows Thursday

The free program begins at 7:30 p.m. at Cranford High School.

CRANFORD, NJ - Fans of movement and dance are invited to celebrate the upcoming winter solstice as a performance by students from The Cranford High School Dance Academy and Dance Club will take place Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Cranford High School Auditorium (CHS).

This annual event is free and open to the public. It will showcase works choreographed and performed by students, from freshmen to seniors, as well as choreography by Alexis Veglia, cooperating teacher from the Mason Gross School at Rutgers University.

The Dance Academy at CHS is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Since 2008, it has been a creative outlet, a tight-knit community, and a source of inspiration for students serious about pursuing their passion for dance as a part of their high school experience, organizers said.

The program has been further enhanced by the Alessandra LoConte Memorial Fund, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, created to honor Alessandra LoConte CHS ‘11, who was diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma while in college and passed away in 2015.
Since its inception in 2016, the fund has supported master classes with guest artists, field trips, costuming needs, and a community scholarship for college-bound seniors involved in the performing arts. Tenth Anniversary T-shirts and CHS Dance Academy T-shirts which benefit the fund will be on sale at the Dec. 6 Showcase.
