Downtown Cranford Transformed For Miniseries

'The Plot Against America' starring Winona Ryder and John Turturro will be shooting in town Thursday and Friday.

CRANFORD, NJ - A portion of Cranford has been redressed to look like 1942 for the filming for the HBO miniseries "The Plot Against America," happening Thursday and Friday.

Photos taken by our friends at Downtown Cranford show the area around Eastman Plaza has been redressed for the series, which is based on the novel by Philip Roth. The show stars Winona Ryder and John Turturro. The novel is set in an alternate history where Franklin D. Roosevelt is defeated in the presidential election of 1940 by Charles Lindbergh. The plot of the book follows the fortunes of the Roth family during the Lindbergh presidency, as antisemitism becomes more accepted in American life and Jewish-American families like the Roths are persecuted on various levels, according to the book description.

The filming is scheduled to take place from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. on both Thursday and Friday.
