DWI Driver Crashes Into Family-Owned Farm, Garden Center In Union County: Police

The crash happened late on Wednesday night, said Cranford Police

CRANFORD, NJ — A driver, later charged with driving while intoxicated, crashed into a family-owned farm and garden center in Cranford on Wednesday night.

Just after 9 p.m., Cranford Police responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash.

The vehicle had driven off Springfield Avenue near Park Drive, said Cranford Lt. Spencer Durkin.

Investigating officers arrested the driver of a Honda Pilot for driving while intoxicated. The driver's name was not disclosed.

This crash caused extensive damage to utility poles and a private structure on the property of a business located on the 800 block of Springfield Avenue. That business was Dreyer Farms at 831 Springfield Ave.

On Thursday, Dreyer Farms shared, "Clean up is ongoing. PSE&G is replacing the pole between the entrance and exit of the parking lot. Verizon will come in after that. The car is being removed from the greenhouses. We may not be able to open today for the safety of our customers."

Springfield Avenue has sporadic closures as utility crews continue to address downed wires.

This remains an active investigation by the Cranford Police Department.
