Fighting Homelessness In Cranford: NJ Providers Get $34M Federal Grants

A Cranford homeless housing provider and others in Union County will benefit from federal grants as part of a $34 million HUD package.

Cranford, NJ -- A Cranford homeless housing provider and others in Union County will benefit from federal grants as part of a $34 million package intended to combat homelessness in New Jersey.

The grants are part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Continuum of Care Program, which supports hundreds of permanent and transitional housing programs for homeless individuals and families.

According to a news release from U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, President Obama has called for $11 billion in the 2017 budget to be spent over the coming decade on initiatives to prevent family homelessness.

Funding was awarded to this Cranford provider Ending Homelessness Group / 2015 CoC Planning Grant for $35,408.

“It is crucial that we continue to honor our commitment to ending homelessness by supporting local programs and services,” said Menendez. “This federal funding will help increase access to safe and reliable housing for thousands of homeless men, women and children across New Jersey and provide them the services and stability they need to get back on their feet and improve their lives.”

“As a nation, we have a commitment to extending a hand to our brothers and sisters who need it most by helping ensure they have the decency of a roof over their head,” Booker said. "These federal funds provide much needed assistance to our most vulnerable populations by supporting the organizations on the front lines in the battle against homelessness in New Jersey."
