Hartz Mountain Cancels Planning Board Meeting
Hartz will present its plan to build 900 apartments at the July 18 Cranford meeting to gauge feedback before rescheduling its meeting.

CRANFORD, NJ — Hartz Mountain, who plans to build 900 apartments where the former Bank of America office space is located at 750 Walnut Ave. in Cranford, is postponing its Planning Board meeting on July 19.
"Hartz is scheduled to make a presentation to the Cranford Township Committee on July 18 regarding possible redevelopment designation of the project site, and as long as we are proceeding in good faith with the process, we do not wish to burden the Planning Board with the rezoning application," Hartz Mountain officials stated in a letter to the Cranford Planning Board.
Depending on how the township committee meeting goes and the response they receive, Hartz will then make a decision on whether they plan to move forward on their rezoning application with the Planning Board.

The controversial project has garnered opposition from the neighboring town of Clark. Clark Mayor Sal Bonaccorso and the Clark Township Council passed a resolution on July 3 expressing Clark’s opposition to the development.
Bonaccorso and the town council have also started a petition where they are urging Clark citizens 18 and older to sign it. The petition will be available for residents to sign on July 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 30 in Town Hall. Bonaccorso will also be going door to door asking residents to sign the petition as well, according to tapinto.net.
