HBO Miniseries Films In Cranford This Week

CRANFORD, NJ - Downtown Cranford will be transported back to 1942 as filming for the HBO miniseries "The Plot Against America" will take place this Thursday and Friday, according to Cranford Mayor Patrick Giblin.

"They will be filming this week on Thursday and Friday from 8:30 p.m. until approximately 4 a.m. near Eastman Plaza/Street and under the train trestle," Giblin wrote on Facebook. "The area will be transformed into a set from 1942."

The series is based on the novel by Philip Roth and stars Winona Ryder and John. Turturro. The novel is set in an alternate history where Franklin D. Roosevelt is defeated in the presidential election of 1940 by Charles Lindbergh. The novel follows the fortunes of the Roth family during the Lindbergh presidency, as antisemitism becomes more accepted in American life and Jewish-American families like the Roths are persecuted on various levels, according to the book description.

David Simon and Ed Burns are writers and executive producers of the project, Giblin noted.

"Thanks to Gabe Bailer and the DMC Committee and Cranford Police Department for working with HBO on this project," Giblin said.
