Maplewood Officer Completes Unity Tour

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Thousands of police officers, including one from Maplewood, biked hundreds of miles from New Jersey to Washington, D.C. in the Police Unity Tour to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty.

The fundraising bike ride is over 300 miles and took four days to complete.

Taking part in the ride this year according to the tour database was Vincent DeCicco of the Maplewood Police Department.

In May 1997, the Police Unity Tour was organized by Officer Patrick P. Montuore of the Florham Park Police Department with the hope of bringing public awareness of Police Officers who have died in the line of duty and to honor their sacrifices.

What started with 18 riders on a four day fundraising bicycle ride from Florham Park to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. has grown into nine chapters consisting of nearly 2,500 members nationwide who make the trip annually.

Funds generated from donations have raised more than $23 million dollars for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
