New E-Bike Laws Coming: Cranford Urges Parents To Prepare

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford officials are encouraging residents and parents to learn about New Jersey’s new e-bike laws before statewide changes take effect in July.

The Cranford Police Department recently hosted an informational presentation at the Cranford Community Center focused on the upcoming regulations, with additional sessions expected in the coming weeks.

Township officials said the goal is to help residents better understand the new rules before enforcement begins later this summer. The new statewide law includes licensing, registration and insurance requirements for many e-bike riders.

Deputy Mayor Paul Gallo encouraged families to attend future sessions, even if they do not currently own an e-bike.

“I urge parents to attend future sessions, whether you currently own an e-bike, are considering owning an e-bike, or none at all,” Gallo said during a recent Township Committee meeting.

Gallo said the township wants residents to become familiar with the changes before they officially take effect statewide in July.

The new law also includes age restrictions and helmet requirements for riders across New Jersey.
