PHOTOS: Cranford Runners Take On 2010 Blue Devil Classic
Annual track meet draws in hundreds of runners.
Cranford athletes made the short trip to Kehler Stadium in Westfield to compete in what was the center of the northern New Jersey track and field universe for seven hours on Saturday during the annual Blue Devil Classic relay track meet.
A North Jersey high school running institution, the annual relay meet drew hundreds of high school athletes, including Cranford runners, for several hours of running, jumping and throwing events in the run up to the late spring championship season. Participants ran and threw in the wide range of traditional high school track meet events from sprints to shot put to pole vault.
Coordinated by Assistant Coach Chris Tafelski and other track coaches, the event brought in high schools from around the northern part of the state, including local rivals Cranford, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Summit and Union Catholic. The Blue Devil Classic is one of the many weekend relay meets which dominates the spring track schedule. The event is viewed as a model for neighboring communities in staging similar events.
